About the Project

A rebuild for Safety

Caltrans is conducting a bridge replacement project on U.S. Highway 50 over Echo Summit. The primary purpose of this project is to improve safety along the section of Highway 50 in El Dorado County known as Upper Meyers Grade at Echo Summit. The construction zone will extend from the Caltrans Echo Summit Maintenance Station, east for 1.2 miles.

Project Benefits

The replacement of the bridge will bring the new structure up to current seismic standards and improve safety for decades to come. The original bridge, built in 1939, has deteriorated over the years due to age, weather and vehicle traffic.
